Antsy sales people
The Wednesday rant series is back...
Did you miss me?
I’m so excited for this community and what you’re part of here
and I luuuuvvveeed meeting the founders cohort of my brand new Program Procurement Soft Skills Mastery. Some amazing people who I can’t wait to help fast track in their Procurement careers over the coming wees.
Also, conversations are flowing and deals are being done with a sponsorship package for this newsletter. If you’re interested in getting your business or solution out in front of 10,000 Procurement professionals just hit reply with the words ‘send me details’ in the subject title and I’ll give you the full breakdown.
A week or so ago I published this post on linkedin here
I don’t do many meme posts any more as they don’t tend to add value or help educate, they often just perpetuate stereotypes.
This post went viral (well all depends on your interpretation of viral but let’s just say 200k + views and counting is far higher than my average).
But it ruffled some feathers within my organisation from sales guys who thought I was having a go at them.
I wasn’t.
It was light hearted humour.
But with a serious undertone.
Why do Procurement professionals not get the same kudos or recognition as sales teams in a business?
Why is driving £250k revenue celebrated with rewards ceremonies,
While driving £1M+ savings is treated with scepticism and distrust?
I’ve seen the best Procurement teams deliver incredible value within sometimes exceptionally pressured circumstances.
And then we get no mention, not even in the end of year results.
I get it, not all Procurement pros help themselves here, particularly the rogue ones who try to ‘steal’ credit for things or the dinosaurs who act as blockers.
But there are some brilliant Procurement pros out there who I’d go so far as to say helped save businesses in 2020.
People like you who give your all to the organisation, often with no thanks. Dealing with internal non-compliance and external conflicts daily.
Give yourself a pat on the back.
In fact, heck…petition your business to develop Procurement awards for your team. It’s the basics and shouldn’t actually cost much either
(unless it’s a trip to Vegas up for grabs like some sales teams get…in which case even I’ll be chucking in some ‘rogue’ savings)
