Goldfish & Grapefruit
The Wednesday Rant Series
Hey there,
I think we’ve finally lost it.
As a Society our attention span is so limited, we can’t even interpret a simple LinkedIn post beyond the visuals.
We have the attention span of a goldfish these days (or memory…one or the other) 7 seconds.
Btw to help me give you content that YOU want to see, please spend just 30 secs completing my mini-survey.
As a thank you, you’ll be entered into a prize draw to win a £10 voucher of your choice (5 x winners in total).
All you have to do is fill out by Friday 7th June to be in it to win it.
Last week, I published a post about the Procurement Iceberg.
Dam I hate the image.
It does the rounds on the Internet every now and again. You’ll often find it on Reddit.
Hint - Reddit is not a good place for Procurement content.
The opening text of my LinkedIn post was this.
I don't understand this phenomenon. Every time I see this picture, something dies inside me ☹️
So, while most people got it, and read my whole post to understand my reasoning.
Many just hollered and whistled with pod like comments
“Great image”
“Love the Iceberg diagram”
“Great representation of the Procurement value”
Thinks got worse.
The creator of said image wrote this
Sure thing!
Next time I tear apart an image I’ll be sure to tag you and give you the credit so that 100,000 other Procurement pros can see.
P.S. The Credit was squarely there on the image anyway - aka the title in blue “Procurement Tactics”.
We’ve lost our ability to read.
Our attention span is now limited to soundbites and visuals.
We can’t even critique the most basic things online.
Artificial Intelligence is no longer just an existential threat.
We have become artificial and unintelligent.
Well…not all of us,
You’re okay
See you next time!
Tom
P.S. my pet ferret ‘Luna’ has a similar attention span but I forgive her because she’s beautiful.
P.P.S eat a red grapefruit this week. Unbelievably good for you and brilliant for wakening your soul in the morning. Helps with your attention span too.

The aforementioned was actually my best performing Linkedin post of the week:
